This is one of the entrances to the New York Life Insurance building. It was designed in 1926 by Cass Gilbert, the same guy who designed the Woolworth Building. It's built on the site of the original Madison Square Garden. The brass gates, pictured here, are featured at the beginning, and end of Martin Scorsese's, After Hours. The NYLI building is a New York City landmark, and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
